Google to launch YouTube for Schools
Google is launching a YouTube for Schools service to make educationally relevant videos available for use in school. It's a great idea, but for it to actually be used in schools, many districts around the country will have to modify their filters to allow teachers to access at least this portion of You Tube. Most schools have some type of filters in place designed to block inappropriate material, and it's common for these filters to also block social media, including all of Facebook, MySpace and YouTube movies. more >>
YouTube - testing a new look
It appears that YouTube is getting a facelift. And Google+ might be a big part of the new look. The changes, which are not in effect for most of the site's millions of users, appear to prominently integrate Google's social networking site, Google+, with YouTube (which is also owned by Google). We are a You Tube nation
Seventy-one percent of U.S. adults used video-sharing sites like YouTube and Vimeo in May, according to a new Pew report, compared to 66 percent a year earlier. Also interesting is the percentage of users who told researchers that they stopped by such a site yesterday, which grew to 28 percent. In other words, more than a quarter of us go to You Tube and its competitors on any given day. more >>
Lady Gaga's YouTube account is suspended
Even one of online video's biggest stars is not immune to copyright claims. Lady Gaga's YouTube account was suspended. A notice said the suspension was due to "multiple or severe violations of YouTube's copyright policy". Google-owned You Tube declined to comment. Reports have suggested that the infringing Utube video was a recently uploaded video clip of Lady Gaga's performance on Fuji TV. The singer's publicist and record label were not available for comment. more >>
