Microsoft gives up YouTube chase
In the coming months, Microsoft plans to significantly scale back Soapbox, the video site it once hoped might take on YouTube in the user-generated content arena. Soapbox launched in 2006--the same year Google announced its deal to buy YouTube--but never emerged as a significant threat to the market leader. more >>
TaxSlayer.com Announces $25,000 YouTube Video Contest
TaxSlayer.com announced today the launch of their YouTube video contest from which a single winner will walk away with the $25,000 grand prize. The prize money will be awarded to the creator(s) of only one video based on the requirements listed on their taxslayer.com website. All video submissions must comply with the rules listed at www.taxslayer.com/contest.aspx, as well as the YouTube Terms of Use policy. PBS Expands YouTube Presence
PBS is expanding its program postings on YouTube, including a lot more of them, longer clips, more off-PBS clips from shows before they even get on PBS and more Web-only content. PBS spokesman Kevin Dando said YouTube will ramp up its promotion of the content on the PBS-branded YouTube channel given that expanded presence, adding that the service is looking to help drive more water-cooler talk and tune-in to the shows. more >>
Auburn University Launches YouTube Channel
Auburn University today announced the launch of a dedicated Channel on the widely popular video-sharing Web site YouTube, www.youtube.com/AuburnUniversity. The Channel currently features more than 60 videos including various lectures and events as well as several student study abroad experiences. Among the most viewed clips are videos of AU's beloved mascot Aubie and a promotional video featuring AU alumni reading the Auburn Creed. more >>
